At the head of the First Great Classified Wines. The
estate covers 80 ha of vines.
Since the Middle Ages, the
fine wines of
Château de Pizay have appealed to the most demanding
Beaujolais lovers. Raised in the aristocracy of the chosen vintages, his
noble descendants vinified in the best respect for traditions are tasted all over the world. On the site of an ancient Roman villa, near the path that linked Lugdunum to Autun, Gosmard de Pizeys , vassal of the Sires de Beaujeu, built the first towers of the Castle in 1030. It was on this date that the name of Pizay was mentioned for the first time in the charters of the Abbey of Cluny. The descendants of Gosmard de Pizeys succeeded him for nine centuries.
In the 14th century, they built a robust dungeon and in the 18th century, the addition of a French garden perfect the charm and the sweetness of the
estate. Taken over by a Lyonnaise in 1916, the
estate then changed ownership several times.
Since 1981, the property has belonged to the Société Civile d Exploitation du
Château de Pizay, a subsidiary of the regional agricultural insurance fund Groupama
Rhône Alpes.
“The list of wines on sale in 2020 is
long,” says Pascal Dufaitre, at
Château de Pizay
Morgon Cuvée les Sybarites 2015,
Morgon red 2015, as well as
Brouilly and
Régnié,
Beaujolais red 2019 then
Régnié and
Morgon 2019 in June 2020.
There will also be our new
Cuvée La Centenaire (planted in 1915), a very powerful 2018
Morgon, aged in vats. This aging
Cuvée is to be kept for 10
or 15 years.
Regarding the 2019 harvest, we suffered the frost in April, hence a harvest down by -30%, but the summer ended well and we have very fruity, supple, rich, very gourmet wines, this
vintage 2019 is a great year for us. We continue the wine initiation during visits to the
estate. ”
Do not hesitate to come and discover this emblematic place and this superb
Morgon Les Sybarites
Château de Pizay 2016, aged for twelve months in six 2,500 l oak vats, with a limpid cherry red
robe, developing a sour cherry nose but also with flavors of blackcurrant and peony and a fresh mouth with well-melted but intense tannins, ideal with a shoulder of veal with onions
or a saddle of rabbit in puff pastry.
Excellent red
Morgon 2018, Gold medal at the 2018
Gamay International Competition, it is intense and charming, well-typed, rich in color, full-bodied, well-structured, which smells of cooked fruit and undergrowth. The 2017, also very successful, develops a nose of plum and spices, ripe tannins, and a warm mouth. Pleasant
Régnié Château de Pizay 2018, Paris Gold Medal, a wine with a deep color, all nuances, with melted but very balanced tannins, dominated by ripe strawberries and
humus, a wine with ample opening, for example , on partridge-style chicken in a
pot or a veal breast with olives and saffron.
Excellent
Brouilly Château de Saint-Lager 2016, with these connotations of cherry and undergrowth, combining intensity and
finesse, a sustained
robe, fragrant on the palate.
And finally this white
Beaujolais Château de Pizay 2018, from
Chardonnay, on sandy-silty
granite soil, very charming,
sweet on the palate, where fresh
fruits and flowers intermingle, with persistence of aromas, which we advise you, in particular, with parsley ham
or trout papillottes with wild mushrooms.
