Since 1867, four generations have followed one another in renowned climates. Louis, Roger, Jacques and, today, Christophe Defrance, draw from their terroirs the best blends. Beyond the sparkling pearls, the Defrance family has for many years had the privilege and art of vinifying the famous Rosé Wine of Riceys. The estate is mainly made up of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The production is implemented thanks to careful technical means: Christophe Defrance at the head of the vineyard since 1988, has profoundly evolved the techniques of vinification by combining know-how and modern production system. In collaboration with his wife, they follow their objective of reasoned cultivation, aging to suppprimer all the inputs (insecticides, anti-botrytis, herbicides); all the soils of their estate are cultivated mechanically. And since 2017, the Jacques Defrance Champagne has been Terra Vitis certified.
We always enjoy this Champagne brut Tradition, all fruity and finesse, a large, mature but very fine cuvée, with connotations of lily and pear. Nice raw Exception, all in freshness with notes of dried fruit and acacia, very persistent foam. The crude rosé, is tasty, it develops notes of well ripe red berries, of a pretty finish on the palate, of fresh and fruity mouth. The Rosé des Riceys, has a pretty dress, subtle and persistent nose, pretty mousse, aromas of strawberry, soft mouth with creamy and persistent nuances.
Superb Native Solera raw, with the nose of almond and quince, very well dosed, rich, of great aromatic complexity where one finds nuances of lemon and honey, a success, a cuvée fine and fresh in mouth. The Native Extra brut, all fruit and finesse, ample, has subtle nuances of cooked apple, musk and dried fruit, mouth fragrant and sweet, of very nice evolution. “Native Extra brut, the dominant Chardonnay brings power and minerality to this vintage. fruit aromas (mirabelle, pear...) are expressed with a nice length on the palate with notes of toasted almonds and white flowers.” The Native raw rosé, has a color with nuances of soft pink, with aromas dominated by raspberry and redcurrant, has nuances of apricot confit in mouth. Native raw rosé, from a short maceration of Pinot Noir, this cuvée is selected among our best slopes.”
Beautiful cuvée Excellence, very representative of Pinot Noir, with shades of candied fruit, gourmet mousse, which combines structure and nervousness, a powerful Champagne of delicately golden hue, truly remarkable in the finish. The Prestige, from selected cuvées comes from the majority of Chardonnay blend with 30% of reserve wines, with this delicate and limpid dress, very elegant and generous, with notes of dried fruit and pear. As for the Nature crude, made without shipping liqueur, with delicate aromas

It is in the South of Champagne, in the heart of the Côte des Bar, that their ten hectares of vineyards blossom. The vines of 15 to 40 years old, benefit from the particular terroir of the Côte des Bar with mainly argilo-limestone.
We have been developing Champagne since the early 1980s, perpetuating the work of several family generations. Our wines from Pinot Noir grape varieties for 80%, Chardonnay for 17% and Pinot Blanc for 3%, age in vats for at least two years. So that then, the assemblage of these wines from three different years is put in bottles to give birth to Champagnes of a great finesse. These same bottles are kept between 2 and 3 years in our cellars.
“Great year 2018, no rain in summer, well-preserved grapes, full of juice, wines with a nice balance, power, acidity,” says Patrick Diligent. Quality and quantity come together.
Currently on sale: Champagne brut Véhémence, from the bottling of the 2015 edition, L'Atticisme, composed of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, le Blanc De Blancs, and our Champagne rosé, a 100% Pinot Noir.”
Here is a beautiful Champagne Vintage 2010, composed of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, it is a cuvée combining aromatic richness and persistence, generous, with notes of lily, yellow peach and almond, a beautiful finish, ample foam, a wine that combines delicacy and richness of aromas. The Blanc De Blancs Eminence, a blend of different years of production composed of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, almond nose, all in fruits, is a fine and fresh cuvée in the mouth, combining persistence and richness, beautiful pale gold color.
Excellent Champagne Véhémence, round on the palate, with aromas of dried fruit and citrus, a generous and charming wine. The Vintage Atticisme, harvest 2013, 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, beautiful dress, ample mouth with these notes of fruits, flowers (honeysuckle, lily) and almond, with a rich and very fine moss, very charming. Excellent Saignée d'Altesse rosé, result of the maceration of the grape variety Pinot Noir in its juice until obtaining its color, with aromas dominated by raspberry and redcurrant, and nuances of fruit macerated in mouth, all in roundness and finesse.
