Go into Premier Grand
Vin this year. Maison Gamet is a story of back and forth between 2
Champagne villages: Mardeuil and Fleury-la-Rivière. François Gamet, originally from Fleury-la-Rivière, descends from his native village to go and help his grandmother, Victoire, on the Mardeuil farm. He stays there to work and start his family!
Philippe, his son, goes back to Fleury-la-Rivière to meet his future wife Fabienne, also from a family of winegrowers. François, the paternal father, and Robert, the maternal father, work hard because the work of the vines is done in all weathers and mainly manually, with rudimentary tools. Philippe quickly joined his father after a few years of study at the Avize Wine Lyceum and also set out to clear new vineyard land on the steep hillsides of Fleury-la-Rivière. At the same time, he continues to look after agricultural land in cereal production. In 1992, Fabienne and Philippe founded their own
estate together with family property but also with the purchase of several plots of vines.
The vines (between 25 and 45 years old, clay-limestone soil) are planted in three villages: Mardeuil, Damery and Fleury-la-Rivière mainly in
Pinot Meunier (55%) and
Pinot Noir (35%), some vines in
Chardonnay ( 10%). The grounds are worked mechanically and one limits the treatments. The majority of the vines are grassed. The harvest is manual and 85,000 bottles produced each year. Marianne (the girl) is fully involved in the field.
The year 2020 marks a renewal for the Gamet family, new skins, a more unique identity, and products like
Ratafia brought up to date with the desire to democratize it on the scene of mixology.
HVE and Sustainable Viticulture in
Champagne since 2019.
“This 2019 harvest represents a good year, we harvested late, it was voluntary. We started on September 16 which is quite late in the
Marne Valley. We were able to wait for maturity. After a hot summer, we had a saving rain which allowed us to obtain good acidities. At the tasting, the clear wines are warm, vinous.
For sale, our 2013
vintage: blend of 3 grape varieties, 0
dosage. The
vintage can thus be fully expressed, a very distinguished
Champagne.
Ratafia de
Saignée 100%
Pinot Noir, this is a novelty, in order to highlight the grapes of the
Marne Valley.
We are changing the look of our range as well as the names of certain vintages, such as the 5000
brut selection B from N). ”
Very nice tasting with this
brut brut Nature Millésime 2012, 35%
Pinot Noir, 35%
Chardonnay, 30% Meunier, it is particularly successful, with an almond nose, all in fruit, a
fine and fresh
cuvée in the mouth, combining persistence and richness, beautiful pale gold color. The 2013
vintage follows.
They can also be proud of their
Champagne brut cuvée Rive Gauche, the name of this
cuvée refers to the
terroir of Mardeuil, located to the left of the
Marne, where 1/3 of the House's vineyard is located. Powerful in the mouth but very elegant, a lively, mineral and
floral Champagne with aromas of white peach, mango, vegetable note and hawthorn flowers.
Extra
brut Caractères,
Pinot Noir, Meunier and
Chardonnay, 80% reserve wines (including 15 different hence the name of this
cuvée “Caractères”) and 20% wines of the year delicate and refined where the Meunier expresses itself particularly well, notes of candied fruit, mirabelle plum. Beautiful evolution in oak barrels which gives it aromas of honey, brioche, beautiful complexity, persistent finish with peppery, vanilla, chocolate and roasted almond notes.
Always tasty Rive Droite
brut, 60% Meunier and 40%
Pinot Noir from the 2016 harvest and 45% reserve wines. A fresh wine carried by the fruit of the Meunier on aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant and wild blackberry, to be expected, for example, on a filet of Saint-Pierre poached in sauce
or a simmered of veal with honey and cumin.
The
brut brut rosé is a blend of 60% Meunier and 40%
Pinot Noir from the 2015 harvest, 17% red wine (Meuniers from
Clos des Goulots de Fleury-la-Rivière), a perfect balance between freshness and aromatic intensity, Meuniers and Pinots blacks express delicious aromas of strawberries and raspberries.
brut Rosé de
Saignée, 100% Meunier from the 2014 harvest, 50 year old vines. Lively and delicious attack, nice aromatic
bouquet of evolved red and black
fruits (blackberry and blackcurrant) like wild strawberries and ripe raspberries.
