“In 1895, our great-grandfather Antonin Ressès inherited the estate. In 1973, after the official designation of the Cahors Contrôlée, our grandfather Marcel and our father Léonce decided to market all their production in bottles. The field stands out as one of the references of the appellation, a success attested by numerous medals and awards.” Today, the two brothers, 4th generation, are at the head of this 35 ha estate.
Remarkable Cahors La Commandery 2015, 97% Côt and 3% Tannat, aged very well for 12 months in oak barrels of which 18% new, offered in a beautiful bottle, it is very fragrant with notes of blackberry and cherry, combining finesse and structure, with silky tannins and very balanced, well fleshy, of guard. Also attractive, their Cahors La Caminade 2017, Malbec, Merlot, which combines aromatic concentration, finesse of tannins and power, with notes of cooked fruit, harmonious and intense mouth, it must be very nice with a terrine of countryside or game in sauce.

Family know-how since 1890. For four generations, the Delpech family has been producing 15 ha of PDO Cahors and Malbec rosé. Its Label “Vigneron Indépendant” affirms its know-how and its belonging to a family of professionals responsible and respectful of tradition. It is on the terraces of the Lot valley that Le Domaine de Lavaur takes care of its vineyards whose unique grape variety is the Malbec.
The traditional Malbec grape variety of AOC Cahors wine: a Millenium wine. It comes from vines between 15 and 45 years old, planted on light and stony soils on the 2nd terrace and on clay-limestone soils on the 3rd terrace. Traditional vinification is carried out in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks dedicated to each of the plots. The maceration is adapted to each cuvée, favouring the fruit, roundness and elegance of the tannins.
Yves Delpech tells us “that in 2018, the good season allowed to harvest under the best hospices, the wines have a beautiful maturity, great richness, high degrees, concentration, matter, tannins without aggressiveness, all the qualities are combined for a superb vintage. This year, the wines put on sale are in Prestige cuvées and 2014, 2015, 2016, and in the second quarter, 2017.”
A superb Cahors Prestige 2016 (black and gold label), 100% Malbec, clay-limestone soil, from the 3rd terrace, of sustained color, full-bodied and classic, rich in aromas of macerated fruits (redcurrant, blackberry), with melted tannins, a wine scented in mouth, ample, good frame, with this characteristic fleshy, very good guard. The 2015 has powerful and ripe tannins at the same time, with aromas of violet and blackberry, it is very robust, powerful, spicy, intense, of a complex finish, a treat!
Very beautiful Cahors red cuvée Ysaa 2014, 100% Malbec, manual harvest, it is intense color with black reflections, powerful aromas of red fruits (blackberry, strawberry wood...), spices, with well coated tannins but very balanced, a rich and well-typed wine, to be opened with a ham with lentils or a stewed beef.
Gîtes on site, ideally located to discover the charms of the region (Rocamadour, Cahors, Gouffre de Padirac, Saint Cirq Lapopie, Montcuq...).

At the head of the First Great Wines Classified. A domain that is the archetype of what a Madiran must be, a wine at the same time very powerful and spicy, but also fragrant and supple, according to the vintages. A vineyard of 40 ha totally grassed since 1960 and worked with organic amendments. In order to limit yields to a maximum of 55hl/ha, the harvest is done in green.
“Only naturally occurring material amends the soil. Our practice of deburring, stripping and harvesting in green limits yields to a maximum of 55 hl/ha. Harvesting by hand is our constant practice to preserve grape clusters and all their characteristics. Our winegrowers take great care in receiving the harvest. It has been operating optimally since 1966, when a harvest reception and an underground barrel cellar were built. The strength of Château Barréjat is to have a huge capital of old vines.” Very rare: vines of 80 years on average, this explains this. The harvest is received manually under optimal conditions. “Probably originally from the Béarn, the Tannat, from the Cotoides family, has been present in the South-West since the Romans. The term Tannat comes from the language of Oc: tan, “tanin”, that is, tanned. It consists of compact, cylindrical clusters with two fins, spherical berries, medium size, dark blue with thick, coloured skin. It is a late and productive grape variety that delights and flourishes wonderfully on the terroirs of Madiran.”
“In 2018, we had a good season, ideal conditions and strong degrees,” says Denis Capmartin, “which will give great wines to keep for the well-balanced reds. Fruity whites have a lot of 'peps' and the same qualities can be found in rosés. In short, a wonderful year as we would like to have every year.
Our 2019 sales will be for 2017 Red, 2018 White and Rosé. High-end White project. “
Remarkable Madiran red Extreme 2015, intense color, ample and fragrant, with connotations of violet, blackberry and humus, a well fleshy wine, firm and persistent in mouth, very good evolution. Excellent red Madiran from the Vieux Ceps 2016, of intense ruby colour, with tasty tannins, it is a powerful but fine wine, all in mouth, very persistent, nose where dominate black cherry and undergrowth, of good evolution. Easy to drink during the summer with family or friends, the Côtes-de-Magascogne rosé Denis Capmartin 2018. For more suptility, we tasted the Pacherenc Mœlleux Passion 2015 with these aromas of acacia flowers, of a good balance creaminess-nervosity, both powerful and very fine, with nuances of almond, sweet, with a beautiful aromatic persistence and the Pacherenc Mœlleux 2017, fatty, with persistent scents, unctuous, all in aromatic finesse (brioche, cooked peach), very balanced, on good guard. On the finesse, the Pacherenc-du-Vic-Bilh dry Bio 2017, where one finds notes of white flowers and nuts, well marked by its terroir, subtle and suave, is all in persistence.
