At the top. A family property for over 5 generations. The encépagement consists of 65% Merlot, 15% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet franc, manual harvest. The regular work of the earth, in respect of the environment, is privileged, excluding any chemical herbicide and any systemic chemical treatment.
It is the permanent observation of the vineyard that determines the interventions. The fauna present in the vineyard attests to the natural balance obtained. In the field, therefore, no chemical herbicides, the grass does not grow because its vine-grower works the soil. He returns it several times a year, with appropriate ploughs.
Florent Guinjard is a child of the Bordeaux vineyard. A real! His passion for wine, he has at heart to share it with the greatest number. Above all, he likes to make people discover the amazing diversity of the wines he produces on his estate.
At the head of a property belonging to his family since 1880, he perpetuates both the tradition while advancing, year after year, his winemaking technique by surrounding himself with the advice of the best Bordeaux oenologists to offer a high-end wine at an accessible price. His will: to produce fruity wines, fine very little wooded. His trademark: the fruit.
“With an area of 11.2 ha,” says Florent Guinjard, “the vineyard is grouped around the winery. It is located on the sandy-silty and stony plateau located northeast of Libourne. Today we work 10.5 ha, have increased the capacity of our winery to be able to vinify all the grapes we produce.
In 2009, we equipped ourselves with a thermo-regulation to better control the temperature of our fermentations. In 2010, to improve our quality and be respectful of our harvest, we bought a new press.
In 2012, in an ecological approach, we equip ourselves with a washing area, and tanks for storing effluent. In the same year we rehabilitated 1 ha of vines, ripping it off and replanting it. Then, in 2014, we restored 1 ha of vines, which we replant with our own selected Merlot.”
For Florent Guinjard, “2018 is a great year in terms of quantity and quality, but we had to deal with it seven days a week and were amply rewarded for our work by this superb vintage, powerful, colorful, which is really what we wanted.
We plan to produce our 2018 Audrey Woodland, which will wait many years to be proposed. We continue to upgrade our equipment to become more efficient on tillage.”
Frankly, its Lalande-de-Opomerol cuvée Reine 2016 is really superb, dense and well fleshy, which combines color and structure, with these characteristic notes of cherry and humus, robust, with mature tannins, powerful and tasty mouth, and excellent guard. It is the same for its 2015, with the nose of cherry Blackberry, with scents of currant and leather, is a generous and harmonious wine, of intense carmine colour, and develops a persistent mouth with these notes of spices and blueberry, with nuances of smoke.
The 2014, has aromas of macerated fruit and spices, a beautiful shade of garnet, a dense wine on the nose as in mouth, combining finesse and framing, with tannins both rich and silky, of excellent evolution.
Beautiful 2012, with a deep ruby colour, a very harmonious wine, with a nose of raspberry and violet and a hint of spices, fleshy on the palate. The 2011, ample and rich on the nose as in the mouth, is of a beautiful balance, fat, with melted tannins, where marry the cherry and humus, a very nice wine. Superb 2010, with notes of ripe red fruit (blackcurrant) and sweet spices (cinnamon), well fleshy, of great intensity, with tasty and powerful tannins at the same time, and is enjoyed on a saddle of lamb with tarragon blinis or mushroom goose.
