Here are four years that my brothers, my sisters and myself manage, near our mother, the “property”, specifies Marie-Helene Lévêque.
We start to collect the fruits of the committed investments (putting under grass of the vines, limitation of the yields, modernization of the techniques of wine making…). Manual grape harvest in sieves for all the white wines.
Moreover, we called upon Hubert de Bouard, owner of Château L’Angélus à Saint-Émilion who advises us for the wine making of the reds since 2006, one vintage which is tasted already very well. These efforts of investments, of modernization undertaken for three years have started to feel on the quality of the wines; they are rounder, fleshier and fruity. The wines are delicate and elegant with tannins more supple than in the past; that corresponds to waiting of the consumer, less sensitive to the wines of long guard and which prefers the fruity side and the suppleness.
Chantegrive red 2007: beautiful steady color, elegant savor of ripe small fruits, round tannins and already a little supple; much fruit for a wine which announces charmer with a perfectly well-balanced structure very.
Chantegrive red 2005: beautiful robe intense crimson, quite ripe black fruit nose, some notes of soft spices and mild tobacco. The attack is at the same time frank and round, the palate is attractive and generous with silky tannins. Very beautiful wine of good guard.
Our wines are matured out of new barrels or one year exits of the best wet coopers.
For the Caroline vintage (vinified and matured out of barrels) we succeeded in these two last years producing fleshier wines and more complexes. Success is total because we do not have any more one bottle to sell, the customers await the arrival of the 2007 impatiently. Traditional white Chantegrive is very round, with much freshness is very appreciated on the Asian market.
Chantegrive white 2007: much fleshy and length for this white with the persistent pineapple and citrus fruits aromas. Very beautiful wine with an exotic fruit final.
Most of the family is invested much in the family business; Francois, who is president of the brokers regularly comes to deal with wine makings with Patrice and Frederic de Luze, husband of our Agnès sister became an ideal partner for the marketing of our wines.
Despite everything these efforts, our customers did not have to undergo large increases in price and Chantegrive remains an excellent quality-price ratio.
This family motivation instigated the company around our mother who takes care of the destinies of her Château with a little less apprehension.”
Château Chantegrive, it is a large vineyard of 95 hectares made up of 40% of white type of vines (50% Sémillon and 50% Sauvignon) and of red type of vine 60% (50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet-Sauvignon). The very beautiful soils are on gravelly terraces formed by the Garonne at the time quaternary on the communes of Cérons, Podensac, Illats and Virelade. The grounds are made of peastones mixed with delicate sands, on a structure argilo-limestone. The vines of 35 years Middle Age are planted on croups ideally exposed full south.
